A spirited crowd at Will Clark’s Bingo in NYC raised more than $500 for Swish while enjoying the eye candy (Will’s parties overall have raised more than $70,000 for local LGBT groups—go Will!). Also: happy birthday to our Queen Hag!
The arrival of our Swedish counterparts was a great excuse to take the stage once more! Our second benefit cabaret, Swede Charity, was held at NYC’s Duplex piano bar.
Swish took Stockholm by storm for EuroPride 2008. Highlights included marching in the parade, being interviewed on Swedish TV4’s Sunday morning show, and participating in a roundtable discussion on LGBT issues at Pride House.
Swish won Most Original Marching Group for our entry in the 2008 NYC Pride March, themed “Be a Superhero for the LGBT Movement.” It was our most colorful and purposeful Pride float yet.
A sold-out audience at the Duplex piano bar in NYC made our first-ever cabaret benefit a smashing success. The event, EuroPride or Bust, raised nearly $1,500 in support of Swish’s 2008 Pride campaign—both at home and across the pond at EuroPride.
Swish founder Sue Sena traveled to Sweden for the launch of the book Fag Hag, which features a chapter about Swish. Author Linda Leopold visited NYC in 2007 and interviewed Swish members as they participated in NYC Pride activities.
Our entry in the 2007 NYC Pride March:
Theme: Ancient Greece—to honor early acceptance of homosexuality; inspired by the film 300’s homoeroticism
Tag line: “Our Trojans Are Extra Large”
Nominee: Best Decorated Float
